Mcmillions Scoops BC's Provincial Title (9.4.2007) This years BC Provincial Championships were held at the brand new venue of Copper Ridge Disc Golf course at Logan Lake. The course proved to be as challenging as it was beautiful. The battle for the Championship came down to the wire between Canmore (Alb) native Kris Pereira or "Kris-P" (pronounced "Crispy"), and Snap Team mates Mike Mcmillan and Glen Whitlock. Going into the final round all three frontrunners were within a stroke of one another. For Sunday though, the weather had turned sour and wind and rain swept through the surrounding mountains. To win would require more damage control than birdies. Kris-P would go a few below par on the front 9 to establish a lead, however, strong play down the stretch by Mcmillan reduced that lead, and on the final hole of regulation Mike dropped in a 10' bird for the win. Mike couldn't give enough credit to his Snap Loin Cloth in keeping his disc dry for the win...

Whitlock whittles way to top 10 as Grand Master at Worlds (8.20.2007) We haven't received all the details yet, but the short and sweet of it is that Glen had one of, if not difinitively, his best Worlds finish to date. He too had a number of rounds rated 1000 or better by the PDGA, some of which beat the eventual victor, the infamous Dave Greenwell. Once we've caught up with Whitler at this weekends BC Provincial Championships, we'll bring the full story along with BC's results..

Snap Welcomes Young Gun, Braeden Simmonds, to the Team (8.20.2007) Braeden has long been known in BC as an outstanding young talent. From the early days when he was discovered practicing lefty at his home course of Slatspring Island to his first Open victory at the ripe old age of 14, Braeden has demonstrated world class skill and competitive poise. Something tells us me he wanted to see if the hype were true, because this year he went to compete in the under 16 Amateur World Championships. In only his second competitive test outside Canada, Braeden battled his way to a runner up finish carding high rounds PDGA rated from around 1000 to 1040! -full results- Once Braeden had attributed much of his success to the Whitler we gave him before he left, the fit for Team Snapt seemed obvious. Welcome to the team Braeden!

Touch (part I) (7.6.2007)

I never hear Touch shots talked about on the course or online all that much- maybe it’s a regional thing. Around BC and especially in the Gulf Islands, Touch isn’t talked about much either, but marginally more than anywhere else I’ve been. And in almost any circumstance, it’s the masters talking.

We have a Guru in our parts who has uncanny Touch. This is him.

As far as I know, Touch shots are anything around the double circle (20 meters or 66 feet) and out, or anything at the 10 m circle that is not an open shot and impedes your regular stance. To see these shots made makes me want to play Disc Golf.
Touch specialists seem to like lofty and perfectly stable discs for their throw. Obviously the Whitler is awesome, but it is the likes of the Super Puppy, Skystreak, and many vintage DGA products, etc. that inspired it. -- And ‘it’ was born! Only it endured a comic book like mutation, producing spaceage, chain absorbing, impenetrable skin --

In all honesty, we love Touch shots and we’re about to bring some to you via the wonders of internet video. In the meantime, one of my favourite video captured touch shots is Dave Greenwell’s Turbo at Lake Tahoe (I think) on either Cool Shots or Hot Shots. And the link above of course, albeit amateur, I find it inspired and deadly of the cameraman to do.

What’s your favourite Touch shot? (Did I just say that into a vacuum?)

Snap Putting the Grass in Grass Roots. (6.7.2007) Prototyping of Helios has been running about as smooth as she cuts into a headwind. Hand-poured and shaped protos have been the latest designs. Results have been truly awesome in the speed, glide, and float scale. We find ourselves now left with options to fine tune the final shape... or perhaps even shapes. And as for the grass reference? I'm just saying that our arms are yanked from the field testing.

George

'Crazy George White' Wins Pender Classic!! (5.28.2007) Georgie boy must have been driving drunk and putting sober on his way to victory at this year’s infamous Pender Classic Disc Golf tournament. Finishing regulation play tied for the lead with Pender local Brian Bauer, George Whittled his way to win on the third playoff hole and was thus crowned Pender Champ of '07. Anyone who knows George the disc golfer knows that winning Pender was one of his greatest Disc Golf ambitions -- Congratulations buddy!

Whitlock Quietly Demolishes Grandmasters Field at Beaver State Fling NT. (5.28.2007) Team Snapt took off South for the most prestigious tournament in the Pacific NW, the Beaver State Fling, held at the awe inspiring Milo McIver State Park. Seasoned veteran Glen Whitlock proceeded to dissect the course, leading the event wire to wire for a 15 stroke victory. Helios hand-pour prototypes were also debuted at the Beaver State Fling. Helios' modern design concepts have both Pros and Ams anticipating its official arrival...

Snap Announces Development of Helios Driver (4.24.2007) It was a long but very productive and educational Winter for the peops of Snap. The end result, a gift honouring the god of Sun -- Helios. Although we can not state a release date as of yet, we aim to have our long range disc streaking like sun rays through courses everywhere as soon as we can. Keep an eye out for prototype releases in the coming weeks and demos at the Beaver State NT... More details on Helios can be found here.

Mcmillan McMillan Hot Out of Gates (4.24.2007)
Snapt Team member Mike Mcmillan continued to climb his way to notoriety on the Pac. NW pro Disc Golf scene at the Cool Shoez Invitational held at SeaTac, Seattle with a second place showing to '07 Memorial champ Dave the Feldborg. Mike's increasingly consistent play, and two of three rounds rated 1000+ also makes him currently the top rated player in BC by the PDGA. CSI results can be found here.
Kristy Lee

Snap Signs Local Phenom, Kristy Lee
With her low-key demeanour it’s no surprise that Kristy has flown under the disc golf radar and onto leader cards here in BC. After a provincial Amateur title at Pender last year and a second place Advanced finish at the B tier BC OPEN, Kristy entered the 2006 BC Provincial series as an open player where she has captured a pro win and currently sits second overall. Because she is so new to the scene it is hard to say what the key to her success is. Kristy has a smooth, powerful backhand, a dependable sidearm, and a solid putt with huge potential, but her competitive fire and cool attitude was what sealed the deal for snap discsports sponsorship. Not only did we want Kristy Lee on the Snap’t team, but she has also been a active supporter of snap discsports. Given her success, potential, and support, it only makes sense that we would ask her to join snap in taking the world of disc by storm. Go out there and tear it up Kristy Lee! Look for more on this hot up-and-comer under our new team page soon.

Whitler
Whitler's on Tour
Snapt team captain Glen Whitlock will be hitting the ’06 PDGA tour along with the golf disc snap discsports designed in his honour, the Whitler. Glen plans to hit Pasadena’s Wintertime Open, The Gentleman’s Club Challenge in Vegas, and the first stop on the National Tour, the Memorial. Look for the Whitlers in the Grand Masters division at these stops and ask him what it’s all about. Incidentally, the Whitler will be ready for production release alongside the highly anticipated Snap’t DVD early this spring. Keep an eye out for prototypes and video trailers until then.
